Possibilities for Action

You can take action support freedom and individual rights in medicine. Your health is at stake!

  • Become Informed. Read Health Care is Not a Right by Leonard Peikoff, The History of Health Care Costs and Health Insurance by Linda Gorman and Your Doctor Is Not In by Dr. Orient. The influence and effects of government involvement in medicine and health care are not obvious, nor even well-known. These three works will provide a basic understanding of the moral and practical evils federal and state involvement in medicine, health insurance and other aspects of health care. They will help you become more persuasive in arguing for freedom and individual rights in medicine.

  • Talk to your neighbors, friends, about real moral change in medicine. Spread the word about FIRM's advocacy of freedom and individual rights in medicine. Tell them that government involvement and meddling is the cause of the high cost of health insurance and medicine -- and that the only solution to those problems is to restore the doctor-patient relationship by reducing government involvement in medicine.

  • Write letters to the editor in response to news stories, editorials, and opinion essays on healthcare reform in your local paper. The Colorado Press Association has a list of all Colorado newspapers. Links to particular articles worthy of comment will be posted on the "Activists" mailing list. (Scroll down to subscribe.)

  • If you know of any groups (e.g. social, business, or civic organizations) that would like to hear about the moral revolution needed in medicine and health insurance, please contact Lin@WeStandFIRM.org to make arrangements for a speaker.

  • Join FIRM's "Activists" e-mail list to hear of and discuss opportunities for action in support of freedom and individual rights in medicine in Colorado. You can request a subscription via this web interface. You will be asked to confirm that you agree with FIRM's Statement of Principles and Goals. (This list is managed through Google Groups, so subscription requires an account with Google. Please contact Diana Hsieh with any technical difficulties.)

  • Write your state representatives in Denver and your federal representatives in Washington. Tell them that you want more individual freedom in medicine. Tell them that you support freedom and individual rights in medicine -- not more government programs. Just by entering your zip code at Congress.org, you can find the e-mail addresses of all your representatives.
